No more excuses. Enough is enough. This is beyond repulsive.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lack accountability. They lack fire. They lack a head coach willing to stomp on a team’s throat and not let up. Lovie Smith does not bring that attitude to this team. You see it in one of his captains, just smiling away with the opposing quarterback following the game. The quarterback they just allowed drive the length of the field for the game winning score. That’s Gerald McCoy, the team’s money man who is a direct reflection of his head coach.
But this isn’t about McCoy. This is about the constant screw job Smith is doing to the team, ownership and the fans. It seems like week after week we are witnessing greatness at the quarterback position. Sure, rookie Jameis Winston has shown flashes, but I am referring to the defense’s inability to put a mediocre quarterback away for good.
No, no, no. Not the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense. They are led by inept coaching. Their playcaller took over a system that showed progress last season and is driving it back down to the cellar. That playcaller is Lovie Smith.
There are players on the bench rotting away. There are players on the bench that apparently aren’t good enough. Instead, we see the greatness in Tim Jennings and Mike Jenkins get beat often and those decisions to play them came with false claims and constant praise from their leader. That leader is Lovie Smith.
We have seen this team slow it down at the end of the first half of games and carry that into the second half only to lose. Why? Their decision maker has been on record saying they basically felt no need continuing their scoring. Because, Lovie Smith.
Sunday’s 31-30 loss to the Washington Redskins is yet another reflection of Smith’s coaching and all the previously mentioned examples. There should be no more excuses offered. There was so much talk about how talented this defense is in Year 2 under Smith. That has gone out the window thanks to Smith.
This team will only go as far as Smith takes them. And that’s nowhere. Especially with the decisions he has made.
Head coach Lovie Smith is the only one responsible for what’s wrong with the Buccaneers.
